Dental hygiene is just as important for children as regular dental check-ups. We Dental hygiene is just as important for children as regular dental check-ups. We divide it into three categories:
Each category considers the child’s age, experience, and mental well-being. This ensures the child feels safe and gradually develops a positive attitude toward dental care.
First, both the child and their parents are guided through the visit. This helps them understand what to expect. The dental hygienist gently examines the child and assesses the condition of their teeth and gums. Based on this, the hygienist selects the appropriate form of treatment.
A large part of the visit is instruction. For example, we show children how to brush their teeth correctly. We also explain which type of toothbrush to use and when to start using interdental aids. Moreover, we discuss foods that affect dental health. Everything is explained in a clear and playful way, so children can easily learn these principles.
During treatment, we professionally clean teeth, removing plaque, pigmentation, and early tartar in older children. Modern methods are used to ensure the procedure is painless. If a child is frightened, the hygienist adapts to their pace. This helps children become accustomed to the dental environment. Consequently, dental hygiene becomes a natural part of care rather than a stressful experience.
We recommend regular hygiene check-ups, usually 2–4 times a year. The frequency depends on age, dental condition, and home care habits. It is ideal to bring the child’s toothbrush from home. This allows the hygienist to demonstrate proper technique using the child’s own tools. If the child does not yet use interdental brushes, the hygienist will recommend suitable sizes and explain when to start using them.
Finally, the next steps are agreed upon. This includes the timing of the next check-up and which tools parents should use at home. Children leave the appointment with healthier teeth and knowledge to care for their teeth every day.
